In a case of what Mark Hillman would call delicious irony, the Environmental Defense Fund is running a web ad that thanks Obama for "rejecting lobbyists — and protecting kids" a day after it was revealed that Obama hired a high powered environmental lobbyist to run his re-election campaign in Colorado.

See the ironic ad sent in by a loyal reader here:

The Denver Post reported on Monday that Carrie Doyle, who has been a leading anti-drilling lobbyist in Colorado, will run the Obama re-election effort in the state.

Not only is a lobbyist running Obama's Colorado campaign, but immediately upon taking office Obama began issuing waivers for his rule against hiring lobbyists, placing influence peddlers in some of the most important positions in government. Those positions include the Deputy Secretary at the Pentagon, Deputy Secretary at Health and Human Services (HHS) and Chief of Staff at the Treasury.

In 2009, Politifact labeled Obama's promise to not hire lobbyists in his administration the "most significant promise broken" in his first 100 days in office.

Can we please now get past the ridiculous talking point of the Obamabots?

Obama loves lobbyists. He hires them at the highest places of power in his campaign and administration.

And it is exactly this kind of hypocrisy that will provide endless ammunition to the eventual GOP nominee to point out the Grand Canyon-esque gap between candidate Obama and President Obama.
